August's Brimming Tidbits

 Hello!

August was a month brimming full and about bursting at the seams, with travel, all of us spread all over at various times, starting school for #3, a broken leg, moments of intense emotions, and much more.  God is faithful, and we are beginning to get into a school rhythm. We will make it through the emotional swings due to a full cast and no weight bearing for #4.

Snapshots of the brimming tidbits...

...here is a snapshot of one of the times when we were scattered all over.  As our boys start 'flying' on their own more this is slowly becoming the new normal for our crew...bittersweet feelings...
...after we left Kirk in East Texas after the completion banquet to finish his last week of Leadership, we came home for a few days and then headed to Colorado...we stayed for a couple of days with Jason's cousin and family while we picked Kirk and a friend up from the airport, then picked up Jadon and then headed up to the mountains...
...just chillin' and relaxin' :)...it was such a blessed time and we enjoyed every moment...

...trail up...
...the beauty of a 14er hike is pretty amazing!...

...snack break...
...we stayed in an awesome Airbnb 15 minutes out of this town...

...the summit of Quandary Peak...

...do you spy the mountain goat?...

...I think their smiles last the whole day of hiking :)...

...at the summit and the views!!!!...

...much smaller than the mountain goat, but a cutie :)...

...another break...
...God's handiwork...

...just arriving up in the mountains after picking jadon up...it was a rainy drive and a rainy day, so we are headed to the Soup Pot, which was a yummy place to grab hot soup...
...smiles...
...thank you for the Jimmy John sandwiches!  My guys have said they definitely are great for hiking 14ers!...

...early morning shuttle to the trailhead...
...the youngers and I stayed back at the Airbnb and had fun there for the day :)... headed out for an easy hike/walk and discussed how to catch a baby bunny...
...a couple of aunts came up to say hello and we are heading to the creek...

...one true smile and one grumpy smile, lol...
...fun times at the Airbnb playing games and relaxing...
...thanks to this sweet lady and cousin for finding such a great Airbnb...

...ice cream it is for a second breakfast as we are trying to get food gone before checking out :)...

...on our way out we stopped at this trail that is public but not on the maps, so it isn't very busy... a super beautiful place and hopefully, we can go back to maybe camp overnight in this area and do some more exploring in the future...

...we spotted moose: a cow, two big bulls, and one smaller bull...this was the one that was the closest...

...an old prospector's cabin...

...we spotted 7-8 old mine shafts on the side of this mountain...the boys want to go back to explore them...
...we stopped in Fairplay to swing by an ice cream shop we ate at almost 12 years ago with the boys...it was still there and just as good as we remember...the historical mining town was having a reenactment day and so we ended up spending some time there...
...free horse rides...
...that smile, lol...
...a delicious ice cream stop...
...a reenactment of a gunfight...

...I stayed with this little sidekick who didn't like to stand still too long...

...oh, and yes we had to catch one...
...some wading fun...

..another one caught...

...WOW...
...Kirk babysitting while Jason was gone traveling for the week for work and I was in Abilene for the day...Keke is helping Kirk chore
...she is LOVING her brother babysitting her...
...although the babysitting ended up in the emergency room...we have such great neighbors and our church community...if it wasn't for both, I am not sure what we would have done, since both Jason and I were out of town when KeKe broke her leg...she does NOT like being by herself right now for anything...no weight bearing for a few weeks, has been so challenging and the emotions and attitudes have been off the charts!...

...mommy got to sign first :)...

...she woke up before the crack of dawn a GROUCH, so we ended up sitting out and watching the sunrise...she actually gave me a couple of true smiles and seemed to love sitting out for a while...
...one of the times she wasn't letting me get very far and I had LOTS of laundry to fold, so this is how we did it, lol...
...getting a little fresh air...

...a get-well package from Kansas that was a bright spot and helped keep her attention for a while...

...a run uptown to get a change of scenery, but the ride ended up making her leg hurt worse...
...the full leg cast has definitely helped riding in the car, but she still acts like it hurts a bit at times...

...her excitement of getting a wheelchair and it making it a bit easier to get her around...

...another bright spot and she takes the Kitty everywhere right now ;)...

...pulled out the baby toy tub I had kept for when we have company...but hey, anything that is slightly different is a help :)...
...NOW riding on the mower with Daddy is still something I can do :)...
...her two favorite stuffed animals right now...
...cast signing at church :)...

...Jadon and Kirk spent a weekend with this guy who has been a great mentor in their lives...

...Jadon and Kirk went to Kansas to visit family and grandparents, because when the girls and us go up, they are not going to be available to travel with us...they had a blast and loved their time in Kansas...they made a raft with some cousin's on the Rokey side that floated...

...a fun game night with some of their Meyer family...
...a campfire breakfast the morning they floated the raft...

...fishing and butchering fish with one of the Meyer cousins :)...

...they loved eating out with these grandparents, aunt/uncle, cousins, and a couple of friends who joined them...

...Kirk is training for a half-marathon and this was his view one early morning, as he was getting his miles in...gorgeous pre-dawn view of our place...
...I know the below picture Kirk took... it's so good!...honestly, for most of the pics in this post, I am not the photographer ;)...

Praying for everyone as school gets underway!

"My kids don't need more stuff...They Need:
-more of my focused attention
-to learn life skills with me
-moments around the family table
-to learn the value of hard work
-to make food with me in the kitchen
-to experience unrushed childhood."
